Quantifying component importance for disaster resilience of communities with interdependent civil infrastructure systems

چکیده
Communities and their supporting civil infrastructure systems can be viewed as an assembly of, often numerous, interacting, interdependent components. Tools that identify rank the components relevant for community disaster resilience help efficiently allocate limited resources to reach goals. We propose a method based on Sobol’ indices heuristic upper lower bound search measure importance of vulnerability recoverability communities, quantified using iRe-CoDeS framework, demonstrate it in two Case Studies. An important feature proposed is no prior knowledge component’s necessary perform initial component analysis. The first Study confirms ability recognize meeting housing second illustrates effectiveness method. Namely, almost half considered system are identified irrelevant set goal. Therefore, makes possible rationally reduce number assessment, well avoid redundant component-level modeling data gathering efforts.

Resilience assessment of interdependent infrastructure systems: With a focus on joint restoration modeling and analysis
As infrastructure systems are highly interconnected, it is crucial to analyze their resilience with the consideration of their interdependencies. This paper adapts an existing resilience assessment framework for single systems to interdependent systems and mainly focuses on modeling and resilience contribution analysis of multi-systems’ joint restoration processes, which are seldom addressed in...
متن کاملInherent costs and interdependent impacts of infrastructure network resilience.
Recent studies in system resilience have proposed metrics to understand the ability of systems to recover from a disruptive event, often offering a qualitative treatment of resilience. This work provides a quantitative treatment of resilience and focuses specifically on measuring resilience in infrastructure networks. Inherent cost metrics are introduced: loss of service cost and total network ...
متن کاملSustainable Hazard Mitigation: Exploring the Importance of Green Infrastructure in Building Disaster Resilient Communities
Natural disasters continue to plague the United States, undermining the nation’s ability to build disaster resilient communities. Although structural and non-structural mitigation measures are currently in place to lessen the impact natural disasters have on society, little attention has been given to the construction of green infrastructure as a sustainable hazard mitigation strategy. The purp...
متن کاملMeasuring Improvements in the Disaster Resilience of Communities
This paper proposes a conceptual and measurement framework to quantitatively assess the disaster resilience of communities. The concept of resilience suggests a much broader framework than simply reducing monetary losses. Resilience can be conceptualized along four interrelated dimensions: technical, organizational, social, and economic. Evaluating community resilience and the degree to which m...
